KayLee

I have been remiss. I went on vacation and was having too much fun with my family to stop and write about them.  So I'm going to finish out the posts I had planned even though November is over. While on vacation I got to spend a good amount of time with my sister, KayLee. She and I are a lot alike and we have fun together.

Other than one challenging year, KayLee and I have pretty much always gotten along. Especially since I've been an adult, she has been a good listener and very understanding. She has a way of making me feel like she really cares about me and what is happening in my life. A few years ago we were on a family trip and she and I were out floating on rafts in the ocean and talking. I had found out I was pregnant just that week and having miscarried previously, was planning to wait until after my first doctor appointment to announce. But being out there that day I found myself wanting to tell her and we ended up having a good discussion about baby names. No one else knew for over a month and I was grateful for her making it comfortable to open up and that she kept my surprise for me.

KayLee is driven, motivated, and good at making things happen. She and I both love hosting and planning events and cooking (translate to eating good food). She is seven years older than me and the big sister I remember being around when I was a kid. She was Big B, Cindy was Little B and I was Baby B.  Both of them did so well in school, were accomplished pianists and involved in lots of other school activities. I followed their example and appreciated that when teachers recognized my name, it was for good reasons. One year all three of us were in the high school musical, Music Man. I was one of the kids in town and a boy in the marching band. KayLee was one of the pick-a-little-talk-a-little ladies and Cindy played in the pit orchestra. I remember loving being a part of something they were in and feeling very grown up for being included and it may be the only time the three of us were ever in something together. I also have memories of dancing around in my father's den with her while Rick Astley and En Vogue played on records or cassette tapes.

I'm grateful for KayLee and for what a wonderful example she has always been to me. I don't know if I am naturally a lot like her or just grew to be so but I love her and enjoy being with her. She is fun to play games with and talk to and shopping is a favorite past time of ours. She has helped me with mothering challenges and listened with an open and understanding heart. She shares recipes and books with me and is always encouraging and helpful. She is a friend and confidant and advice-giver and sister and for that I'm grateful.
