School!
Tuesday we went shopping for last minute school supplies (for the big kids) and sneakers and then we headed up to Mrs. Moo's for some milkshakes (my pick for end of summer). They have pared down the menu so there aren't nearly as many choices but it was really good and then we went to the park and the kids all played while Michelle and I talked. She's such a great listener and I'm so grateful I can be honest about my feelings with her. We left in time to get Curtis to his baseball practice where I also sat and read. I noticed that not a lot of parents stayed so on Thursday night I just dropped him off and Josh picked him up on the way home from work and that was nice. I don't think I will stick around if I don't have to. Then Josh gave the kids their back to school blessings and it was so nice. I'm grateful he can do that for them.
First day went well! Josh got the two big kids off in the morning and then I got the other two off and then I went to the gym for the first time in weeks and it felt so good. I think working out really helps my anxiety so it was good to get back and work hard. I took the day to do what I wanted so I read and just sat around, thinking and relaxing and it was really nice. Big kids came home not so enthused but said everything was fine. New things can take some getting used to. Younger kids came home tired but happy. Dance, piano lessons and seminary don't start until after Labor day so this is kind of a phase 1 of back to school but things will get much crazier in September.
Thursday I went for a long walk and talked to Carrie and then I went out to lunch with a new member of our ward. I feel like we have a lot in common so I invited her out and we had a nice time. Friday I went to the library, the gym, got peaches from the Mennonite farm, went to BJs, and even Aldi. After school we went to the pool for one of our other favorite family activities of the summer that we hadn't quite gotten around to yet; eating pizza and having dinner at the pool. Josh picks it up on his way home from work and we eat and swim with Josh and it is so fun. We had a great time and were all swimming and playing around together and we even shut the pool down at 8pm. It was a really special night to just be together and share in the simple joys of life. I really love my family and I'm so grateful for them.
Saturday I took Curtis to practice and then we ran a few more errands (I am so tired of shopping and buying stuff because the list of what they need seems so endless) and when we got home Lily had Adi over and Emma was off with Alexis all day and I was able to finish my book. The last thing on our summer list was a good seafood dinner (Lily's pick). Our usual place on Solomon's closed so we dropped Adi off and picked up Emma and then tried out the Ruddy Duck at Piney Point and it was good. I'm not rushing to go back and there were no hush puppies so the kids were disappointed (though no one complained) but it was a beautiful setting and everyone liked what they ate. We walked around the lighthouse too because somehow Josh had never been there. I guess I have always taken the kids or other people during the day while he's working. It was a beautiful evening to watch the sunset and was again, another special family evening that I just really cherished. We even stopped at Crumbl to pick up some cookies to eat at home. I am not a huge fan and would always prefer ice cream to a cookie but it was fun to try new ones and we cut them up in pieces so everyone could try a bit and it was fun.
Yesterday was a lovely Sunday with wonderful church meetings and I got to talk to Amy for awhile after church, which is always nice. Brandon gave a talk in primary and it was the sweetest. I love that boy! He was wearing his suit and looked just like a little man sharing his testimony of prayer. I'm a lucky mom.
I had planned to eat an early dinner since Josh had a stake meeting but he ended up coming home late from church and barely having time to scarf down my amazing imitation cafe rio pork burritos before he had to leave again. But since we were done with dinner by 5:30 we had time to watch a movie, which we don't usually do on Sundays but I was kind of disappointed about Josh's quick exit and just emotionally done so we started the 6th Harry Potter movie. It is kind of a dark one and we didn't quite have time to finish it but we had popcorn and root beer floats and shared a nice evening together.
Today I'm supposed to be canning peaches but instead I am writing this blog and avoiding the job, which I know I will pay for later in stress when I'm not done and my piano lessons show up or it is time for baseball practice.
