In summary

Friday night we had the Schoenys over for dinner because they were in town and the Wiests came too. It was the first time I had hosted two families in a long time and I was actually kind of nervous but we had so much fun. It was a good reminder of what it feels like to have friends and actually get to spend time with them. The kids all played so well together even though they hadn't seen each other in almost a year. In fact they were having such a good time we let Emma skip dance and then I took her for a make up class yesterday. The Wiests left about 9pm and the Schoenys didn't leave until 10pm and my kids were shocked and so happy I let them stay up, but they were all having so much fun and being so nice so it was okay.
Saturday and Sunday were general conference and it was wonderful to relax, be together as a family and be uplifted and taught and strengthened by all the talks. I especially loved what Elder Holland shared and Elder Anderson. A few of the talks were about missionary work and I just felt so grateful for the wonderful opportunity I had to serve a mission. It blesses my life every single day. There was also a general message of being peacemakers and ending conflict in ourselves, in our relationships and hopefully all the world. I had two questions before going into conference and they were both answered, although both answers mean I have to do something I don't really want to do but I'll get there. The kids listened so well and were really into playing bingo with m&ms. Brandon was especially excited one time near the end when someone said temple because it gave him a double bingo. It was pretty cute and sweet. We took a walk during sessions around the neighborhood and it was a lovely day.
Oh, I also hosted book club last week. I picked Beneath the Scarlet Sky and everyone seemed to like it. It was one of my favorite books that I read last year and we had a really good discussion about it. Since it takes place in Italy I brought Italian bread with pesto and tomatoes and fresh mozzarella and pepperoni for an appetizer and then I made a cannoli cake for dessert that was pretty delicious. It was a nice evening. Our book club has really ebbed and flowed and right now we are down to about seven of us who come regularly and it is a pretty different group than was coming even just a year ago but I still enjoy talking about books and reading new things.
I found a news article today about a man who was found guilty by a jury of a shooting from 2020 here in our neighborhood. I am pretty sure that was the trial I just narrowly missed in my jury duty time. Seems like it was pretty straight forward but I'm still relieved I didn't have to go through that right now.
This weekend we have back-to-back birthdays and then we leave on our trip to CA and we are getting so excited! I am nervous about a lot of things too but I think it is going to be an amazing experience.
