Want to know some funny things about me?
I don't like folding clothes that aren't warm. I leave clothes in the dryer until I am ready to fold them and then warm them up if they have cooled down. As soon as they are out of the dryer, I fold them. Cold clothes are just ew.
I don't mind dishes in the sink but the counters had better be clear and wiped.
I have a strong sense of smell and love it when things smell good. My favorite scents are bread baking, fresh-cut grass, cinnamon, peppermint, popcorn, and musky cologne. I love smelly lotions and soaps and body wash and candles and I know Josh is serious about our date when he actually puts on cologne.
I love mashed potatoes. I mean I really love them. I can eat a whole lot of them and always have. On Sundays after dinner if we would sit around the table and talk, my dad would joke that if we sat there long enough we wouldn't have to worry about putting away any potatoes because I would just keep taking spoonfuls.
I really don't like getting interrupted during a task. If a piano student shows up while I am emptying the dishwasher, it take a lot of effort for me to stop and walk away, if I can make myself do it.
I don't know how to accessorize. I can't wear scarves because I have no idea how to tie them and I don't love things around my neck anyway. I am terrible at matching jewelry with outfits and usually just stick to my gold necklace Josh gave me on our first Valentine's day and the diamond earrings he gave me for my birthday after we were married. Gold and diamonds always seem to match, although sometimes I wear the pearl earrings my dad got me in Hong Kong. I just feel flashy and like I am seeking attention with big jewelry and feel like I have to match everything so if it isn't just the right color, I feel funny wearing it. Plus I wear a lot of v-necks and it bugs me when a necklace is too short or too long. I also like jewelry to mean something but I don't want to spend a lot of money on it unless it is real.
Right now I am wearing my senior year volleyball sweatshirt. I was feeling cold and sad this morning and this is the most comforting piece of clothing I own. It is still too big for me (I loved big sweatshirts in high school) and has my name on the front and a volleyball logo on the back and varsity on the sleeve. It still makes me happy and feel cool to wear it. I loved wearing it to school on game days and being part of a team. I miss my athletic days! Although, should I still have a sweatshirt that is 22 years old?
I love flowers. I love lilacs, daffodils, irises, tulips, forsythia and any flowering tree the most but I love them all. I am terrible at keeping them alive but I love them.
I like celebrating things on the actual day. I have a really hard time if we have to celebrate a birthday on another day because then what makes the actual birthday special? My husband thinks this is a particularly funny quirk and maybe if he were in charge of making birthdays and holidays special he would have more sympathy. His first indication of this was when we were dating and I sent him a birthday card that he opened early. I was so confused and not happy. Why would you open a card for your birthday before your actual birthday? I am fine with adding extra celebrations with friends and such but only if there has already been something fun on the actual day.
I love getting souvenirs on vacation. I love having something tangible to remind me of fun trips. I love my glass earrings and dolphins from Bermuda, all my fun t-shirts from NC, my bell made of Irish crystal from Ireland, my Cadbury Chocolate world magnet, my photographs from NYC and San Francisco, and starfish Christmas tree from our girls weekend on Eastern shore. One of my favorites is a cheap Chinese doll that I got for winning an archery competition at a cultural park in China.
My most embarrassing moment was on our cruise to Bermuda in 2015. It involved a piano, a large audience, bright lights and complete brain failure.
Nuts are my jam. I love them in my ice cream, sweet breads, muffins, brownies, cookies, pancakes and waffles. Walnuts, pecans, pistachios, peanuts, cashews, almonds, macadamia nuts--love them all.
So friends, what about you? What are some of your fun quirks? Or do you have something to add to my list? I am bored today and not feeling great so this was fun. Thanks for reading!
