Week 3
Another week has gone by. This week was a bit more challenging because Josh had to go back to work on Wednesday. We had gotten into a really good routine and then his being gone messed it all up and required us to come up with a new routine, again.
Monday and Tuesday we stuck to our do a cleaning job, get ready for the day, practice the piano and play outside routine. I went for a long bike ride that felt really good. It was the most of a workout I've had and it felt good to be tired and a bit sore from actually using some muscles. Curtis got really into doing chalk art and unfortunately it started raining before he finished. He was right back at it the next day and had to reuse tape because we only had a little bit left, and he reduced all of the chalk we had to nubs barely big enough to hold on to, but he did it! He finished and it looks super cool and it has lasted all week. We got Cafe Rio for dinner on Tuesday (we really don't want them or Nicolletti's to go out of business so we've been trying to order out once a week from one of them) and even though we were supposed to pick it up at 5:20, they didn't bring out our food until almost 6pm. I suppose we don't need to worry about them going out of business; there were lots of people there doing pick up and it felt weird to all just sit there in our cars. But it tasted so good and made us all happy. The girls had done their dance classes earlier in the day and that night we watched the British Baking Show all together. My kids have really gotten into it and it is pretty fun.
Wednesday, with Josh gone, we were all just in kind of a funk. I tried to get the kids into some school-ish work, using all of the websites or awesome resources available but they just weren't that interested. They did watch a lot of TV that day and I did a lot of reading. I think we all just needed some space that day. Thursday was so beautiful outside and was one of the best days we've had. I spent all morning mowing the lawn, cleaning out the weeds from my flower beds, thinking about what kinds of flowers I want to get, and trimming some plants. It felt so good to work and be outside and actually accomplish something. I just wish I could go to Lowes and get all the dirt and mulch I need and to my favorite nursery to get all the plants I want, but hopefully soon.
The kids played outside all morning and even went on a picnic by themselves to a little field down the street. They packed it all and took off on their bikes without inviting me. I appreciate their initiative and when they come up with plans that include everyone so I happily let them go. They had a great time. My kids have always played really well together and often come up with imaginative games on their own, but this time together has really strengthened their friendships and they have been playing amazingly well together, with almost no fighting or crying. It has been a blessing for sure! They do almost everything together and it has made my heart happy. Right now they are playing a spy game so they've each got a spy outfit and walkie talkies and they are pretending to take care of the president, who is their uncle. :) I credit all their reading to such creative ideas for games and I love that they figure out a way to include everyone.
Thursday night I had decided to go to Target for my weekly grocery shopping because we also needed some toiletries and birthday stuff so I went at 8:30 and shopped like a crazy lady until 9 when they closed. I was the only guest in the store so that worked out nicely but they didn't have a few things that I needed so then I had to pop into Giant for just a few more things. I only saw a handful of people so right before closing is a good time to go. I sanitized my cart and hands and washed them as soon as I got home so here is praying another week goes by that I didn't get infected because of my grocery shopping. I was able to get everything we needed except flour. We still have a good amount so I am not worried in the short term but just wonder how much I need to ration it because not one of the grocery stores I have been in over the past three weeks has had flour.
I taught my first virtual piano lessons this week. It was easy with some kids but really hard with others. Even with the slight delay of the video it was hard to help on of my students fix her rhythm/counting and another student is in a level that I don't have here at home, so I couldn't see his music and had no idea if he was playing it correctly or not. But, we did our best. I think it worked for most of my students so we'll continue through April but I will leave it up to the parents and kids. I want to be here to support their progress but if it isn't working for them, I don't want to push it.
Friday Josh was off so that was great. The kids did a lot of bike riding and playing outside, even going on another picnic. We went for a walk and had time "alone" while they were around the corner and it was nice to talk and just be together. Josh also got a lot of things done that he needed to get taken care of and I finished another book and kind of puttered around. We watched the season 2 finale of the baking show and I was relieved Emma didn't cry when Ruby didn't win, we also finished another puzzle, and played another new card game I had ordered. After the kids were in bed we watched Mission Impossible: Fallout while eating popcorn and root beef floats. It was a fun date and while the movie was a bit over the top, it was fun to watch something different and not affected by the virus.
Yesterday I went for another long bike ride, Josh made delicious philly cheese steak sandwiches, and we watched three session of General Conference. It is a bit strange to just have the five or six people speaking in the room and all the music pre-recorded but I'm grateful we still get to have it. This morning's session was especially amazing. Three of my favorite speakers were almost all right in a row and I loved the music and the feeling of the hosanna shout, which is a celebratory shout done during temple dedications that is similar to how the people welcomed Jesus into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, which is actually today. So many of the talks have focused on the restoration of the gospel, the Book of Mormon, the blessings of temple and family history work and the blessing to know God's true character. So many wonderful testimonies and witnesses of Jesus Christ too. My heart was filled with the love and power of God and I felt His spirit witness to me again the truthfulness of what I was hearing. I know God the Father and Jesus Christ appeared to Joseph Smith and that they restored the true church of Jesus Christ to the earth. I know we have a prophet today, President Nelson, who leads the church through inspiration and revelation from Jesus Christ. I know the Book of Mormon is holy scripture that teaches us about Jesus Christ and his true doctrine and I know that anyone who reads it and prays with real intent can know for themselves that it is true. Such marvelous blessings and joy in my life! Elder Bednar's talk today about the temple was my favorite. I can't wait to get back to the temple. Elder Holland always speaks with such power and testimony and love. I felt inspired and uplifted and so happy and blessed and there is still one more session of conference to go.
