It's here

I have been dreading May for a long time now and it is here. April went by too fast. We finished it off with all the normal stuff. We went to Curtis's last home game and they played a pretty sad team and won 17-2, which was nice for the seniors since it was their last home game. They had pizza for the boys and cupcakes and the five seniors got to hit a ball and run the bases one last time. It was a nice evening and I'm really proud of Curtis and the season he has had. The team struggled sometimes, though I can't quite figure out why we got creamed a lot, but Curtis was always a good teammate and did his best and he has learned to get over it when he would make mistakes. He did a great job at 3rd base and his pitching was pretty good and he had a great batting percentage (so Josh told me; sometimes he struck out but he had a lot of great hits too). They have two more away games this week that are too far for us to go to and then the playoffs start this weekend. I don't think they'll go very far but Curtis has had a good experience and there are some kids on JV that look pretty good so there is always hope for next year.

Friday I did a lot of yard work and cleaning and decorating; trying to get things nice for all of our company coming in the next few weeks. After dinner Josh and I went to see our friends in Pride and Prejudice. I am Melissa's ministering sister and Josh and Curtis are the Shallington's ministering brothers so we wanted to support her in her show and Rachael is in it too so that was fun. They both did a great job and it was a fun and comedic telling of the story and Melissa was amazing. She is generally very quiet and yet she was wonderfully obnoxious as Mrs. Bennett, crying a lot and being dramatic and it was hilarious. Even Josh, who is generally not a fan of local theater, enjoyed the show and it was a nice evening out. It was also super nice of Lily to pick up Curtis from the bus after his away game and bring him home.  She even took Claire too when her parents were late and that is totally out of the way; she's such a good helper.

Yesterday was a lot but we did it. Curtis had baseball practice first. Then Josh and Brandon left for his flag football game. I couldn't go because I had to pick up Curtis from practice and then the girls left for their dance recital. This is the little kid one but also all the tap dances so they were in it too. When Brandon got home he and I left to take Curtis back to school for his band concert (he watched the choir concert first) and we went to the dance recital and even got free tickets because Lily is a junior teacher so that was nice. The little kids were entertaining and Lily's tap number was an army theme and Emma's was Navy and they were both super good and fun. One of the junior teachers is also super good at tap so he did a solo that was really fun. We chatted with the girls afterwards for a little bit (and Mrs. Brown and Mrs. Walters) and also Brandon's football coaches were there and they are just the nicest guys. Their sons kept coming over to Brandon and telling him how well he had played and talking about the game and they are just so friendly and I feel lucky we landed in this group of people. We also chatted with the Howells and Lily took some pictures with a few of her students and it was nice.

There was also an evening recital but Brandon and I left to go to Curtis's band concert while Emma stayed to volunteer backstage and Lily's class performed. I had really wanted to see them but we didn't make it back so Emma recorded it for me and they were the cutest. Lily choreographed such a cute dance for them and I'm so proud of her! We also found out she earned a scholarship from the rotary club this week; not exactly sure for how much but that's two so far and we are so grateful and excited. She gets to go to a special dinner at Olive Garden next week and then another awards ceremony the following week.

So Brandon and I went to Curtis's concert and they played movie themes, which was fun. It was short and a bit awkward; I am just not a fan of his band teacher. Curtis doesn't currently have band in his schedule for next year (he chose macro economics instead????) but I hope he'll keep playing his trumpet. We saw the Torgesens and chatted with them for a bit and then we came home to make dinner. Josh went to a retirement party in Northern VA for a previous co-worker and he had a really good time.

We ended the night with loaded baked potato soup for dinner and then ice cream while watching Nate Bargatze's game show. Josh had to be up in Bowie this morning by 8am so it was an early night for all of us. Church was good and then afterwards Curtis helped out at a baptism, which was neat. It started way late and so it was kind of a long afternoon but it is pretty cool to see your handsome son baptize two new members of the church.

And we've made it through the first crazy weekend of May.
