Spring has sprung

Last week was good. I took Brandon to the doctor and despite some theatrics, he survived his two shots. That night I was asked to lead some games for the Relief Society activity so I picked two from previous Christmas parties and made them work for a different season. I had to gear myself up to be in front of people like that for an hour but we had a good turnout and I think people had fun and it felt good to check another thing off my list!

Wednesday we went to Curtis's game and then Brandon and I went to church activities. I also took Emma to the orthodontist and she got rubber bands so that has just added to the fun. Thursday I was supposed to sub from 12-4 but then they made it an early dismissal for heat (AC hadn't been turned on yet in all of the buildings and apparently it is a process) so my hours got cut in half but it all worked out. I subbed for two different teachers while they were in meetings. I kind of like just bouncing around and not having to deal with any one group of kids for too long. Downside is I don't learn their names so it is hard to correct them.

Friday I went to the temple. I listened to the first session of conference all the way up and just felt so inspired; all of the talks were connected and that is pretty cool since they don't coordinate at all. I have been praying over some family stuff and it was such a blessing to me to hear that all again and then be in the temple. It was a beautiful day and so lovely to be in the temple. The drive home was long and boring and I was missing my friend to talk to but I made it just in time to take Emma to dance and then Brandon and I went to Curtis's game. It was a very exciting one; they scored four in the first inning, then because of Curtis's triple, we scored four in the second inning and then it was tied and tied and tied. We went to three extra innings and at one point the bases were loaded (Curtis had a double) and all we needed to do was get the kid on third home...and they couldn't do it. Then the other team got six runs in the 10th inning and we just couldn't hold on any longer. It was a sad way to lose after such a good game. Both of Curtis's hits were amazing.

Saturday was Brandon's game and Curtis had practice and the girls danced and then we did some yard work. Then Josh and I went out for a date for our anniversary. We went to the Front Porch because we had a gift card and I tried something new and it was just okay. Then we walked down to the wharf but we were both a bit chilly and I actually wasn't feeling great because I had gotten sunburned so we went home and told the kids we were still on our date but we got our PJs on and watched a show while eating ice cream downstairs and alone. I love Josh so much and while it is stressful with work right now and his PhD and church and family life, I think we are doing a good job of staying on the same page and for that I am very grateful. I have lots of friends who are divorced or in tough situations with their marriages and I do not take it for granted that Josh still loves and takes good care of me and keeps his promises to me.

Sunday was our actual 23rd anniversary and it was our ward conference, which Josh was in charge of, so we actually got to see him at church. I hadn't quite realized how much I miss having him at church with us until he was there for once. Josh gave a great talk in sacrament meeting and I played while our primary girls sang a beautiful song. Brandon gave the opening prayer, Lily led the music, Emma greeted and Curtis blessed the sacrament. It is fun when our whole family can contribute. Then during second hour Josh led a special discussion with the youth about serving missions and I ended up helping out too so that was super fun. I love listening to Josh speak and teach and it was fun to contribute too because I also love teaching the gospel; bonus that we got to do something at church together. After church Emma had a camp meeting and then the three big kids left for a stake youth fireside and Brandon and I hung out. We had dinner when Josh got home but he left again for temple recommends so thank goodness for my little buddy. :)

Monday I went to sub and they said they didn't need me so I got paid for showing up and then did a bunch of cleaning and laundry and piano. Tuesday I hosted Inklings and took dinner to the Henrichsens and went to book club. Wednesday was more baseball and Thursday I took lunch/dinner to a sister in the ward and we had a lovely chat when I dropped it off. I came home and made bread and stew for dinner but we ate at 8pm since I got a late start on the bread because I was chatting. I'm grateful my family is flexible.

Today Josh and I had a nice morning date and then I got to sub for a music teacher and it was so fun. The kids were in and out in half an hour and we did lots of rhythm and singing and dancing and I loved it. I feel pretty stressed about all that is happening in the next six weeks and I am trying to stay organized and on top of things and take one day at a time. I cleaned out a closet yesterday and emptied out our 72-hour bags and Curtis's had 5T clothes in it (yikes!) so that will be a summer project after we get through prom, all of the concerts, the end of baseball season, a dance recital, sisters Weekend, seminary graduation, school graduation, hosting a ton of family, a graduation party, Lily's final dance performance, the end of flag football, (Brandon's coach thinks they could win the super bowl) my piano recital and the end of school. Deep breaths!
