Peter Pan
What a week! In one sense I can't believe it is over but it was also a very long week. I cleaned and prepared for my in-laws to come and took Curtis to baseball practice Tuesday evening while the girls were at another long rehearsal. Wednesday I went to the gym and the grocery store and then learned about the wildfires and poor air quality. Curtis's practice ended up being cancelled and they had to change youth activities last minute, but Curtis did a good job of figuring that out. My in-laws got here and the girls rehearsed and it was a busy evening.
The sad thing was that Emma was supposed to go on a field trip to St. Mary's City on Thursday but that was also cancelled. I was supposed to go with her and this is the second time I had planned on going on this field trip with a kid and it was cancelled. Lily didn't go on her field trip because she was sick, Curtis's was scheduled for March 27, 2020 so that obviously didn't happen and now Emma's was cancelled because of poor air quality. Maybe I'll get to go with Brandon or if something happens, we'll know our kids are for sure cursed when it comes to this fourth grade field trip. The teachers scrambled to put together something for the day and I ended up going in to help out. The kids rotated through classrooms and got to do puzzles, games, crafts and Bingo. Then they were going to watch a movie but I brought Emma home with me early so she could get ready for her dress rehearsal and have some grandparent time.
Friday was the last day of school, although because we were so wrapped up in the show this weekend, it doesn't quite feel like school is done. No one cried this year (big change from last year) but no one is transitioning either so Emma was a little sad one of her friends and a teacher will be leaving but for the most part, everyone is happy for a break. We had an early dinner and then it was show time!
Their dance studio performs an original ballet every year and this year was Peter Pan. We all went Friday night and so did Noreen, the Ainas, Missy, the Rays and Amy and Jennifer were there to see other friends too. It was so fun to share such a big night for us with friends and family and I was so proud of my girls. They both danced so beautifully and with such joy. I thought the show was super fun and I loved almost every dance. Two of them didn't quite fit the story in my opinion but the dances themselves were still good. I loved all of Lily's dances. In one of them she was front and center the whole time and she was just beautiful. I'm so proud of all her hard work and dedication and see so much growth in her; Emma too. She loves performing and it showed on her face, especially in her jazz dance. So much joy! It makes all the driving and money worth it to see all that they can do and how happy it makes them.
Saturday we all went in different directions, which I found annoying, but that's the way it was. Curtis was supposed to have a baseball tournament in Waldorf but they cancelled it on Wednesday, which was super disappointing. The air quality by Saturday was fine and it was a beautiful day for baseball so we were all bummed he didn't get to play. So, Josh and his dad went to the crab festival, his mom and Lily stayed home, his sister took Curtis to a movie and I took Emma and Brandon to his end-of-season baseball party. His coach is so nice and gracious and not only hosts all the kids for a pool party but he made each of them their own baseball card with their stats on it and gave them a bobble head baseball player trophy; so nice! It was tough to be there alone but I tried super hard to be friendly and make good conversation but did end up so socially tired so I just sat by the pool for a bit and watched the kids swim. Everyone loved my chocolate chip cookies and I'm grateful to be part of such a nice community, even though I don't feel like I fit in it.
Then it was time for dinner (Josh made pizza) and then the girls and I left again. Josh stayed home to hang with his parents even though he felt guilty for not going to stake conference. I went to volunteer and then watch the show again. I loved seeing it again. The first time it was all new and then the second time there was a different cast and I could watch my girls a little more closely. They did so well again, although there were a few prop and costume mishaps that didn't happen on Friday. The seniors wore big sashes when they came out for their bows, which I thought was a nice way to honor them. Leisa and her kids came and sat with me and the Valles were there too, which was super sweet. Lily loves Sister Valle and the whole family came to support her which was so nice. When we got home (Emma cried all the way because she was sad it was over) we took pictures of the girls in all their costumes and then finally got everyone to bed. My in-laws left this morning, we had stake conference and tomorrow the kids and I leave to visit my parents. Bring on summer!
Lily was pixie dust, a scary shadow, an Indian princess, a magic hut, a flower seller and London fog. Emma was a doll, happy thoughts (to help Wendy and her brothers fly) and a parrot (during the pirate scene).
