A good and normal week

Climbing a tree instead of watching their brother play soccer

It has been another week. Nothing special happened, just all the normal stuff. Girls danced, boys soccered, everyone did lots of school work, I taught piano, I did my last zoom gym class because they are discontinuing them so now I have to actually go, I sat through a lot of soccer practices, talked to my parents, and cleaned.

I did go visit Carolee with Michelle and that was nice. It was good to see her and talk a bit and hopefully it lifted her spirits some. I also did some yard work. Emma and Brandon and I went to Lowes and got some flowers on Tuesday and then Thursday we planted them all. They put some flowers in the pots on our patio (Brandon's has all yellow flowers and Emma picked pink and purple) and then some tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and basil in our tiny vegetable garden. I also put a few flowers in front that are bright pink and fun. Now hopefully everything stays alive and beautiful! My front gardens are really looking nice and for the first time in six years of living here, I'm not taking any of my big plants out or planting any new ones. I am not a huge fan of gardening but i do love beautiful flowers.

Curtis had two games this weekend. Friday night's was super windy--it was seriously so crazy. He played really well though and got two goals and it was a great game. The other team was good too so there was lots of scoring, which was fun. We also know the other coach from church so it was fun to see some friendly faces at the game. It is always amazing to me how we never have anyone we know on Curtis's teams so it can get kind of lonely at games, especially because Friday Josh went and picked up Lily from dance then went to a couple's shower so he missed half the game. We had a nice date though once we got the kids in bed. Josh has been recording movies from AMC that are R-rated but edited for TV, mostly from the 90s, so we've been watching those. We watched The Firm and had popcorn and root beer floats and it was nice.

Saturday we had breakfast together and then Josh took Lily and Curtis to his game, I took Emma and Brandon and went to his game. Brandon is not very aggressive but at least he does go after the ball some, unlike most of his team. They are a timid bunch, which means there aren't many goals scored but Brandon came so close twice. Seriously, one was inches away and it was so disappointing when it didn't go in. After his game we went down to Curtis's and got to see the second half of his. He played well again and while he didn't score, he had a few nice assists and I was really proud of him. They won again and it has been fun to really see his team come together! Then I took the girls and we went to the library, then I took Lily to dance, picked her up from dance, had a tearful conversation on the way home so about 30 minutes later I drove her back to dance, this time to purchase pointe shoes from the store right beneath her studio. Her teacher fitted her and it worked out so well. They are expensive but Lily is paying half this time so I feel good about that because I wanted her to wait but she didn't want to so that was our resolution.  We had pizza for dinner and watched Night at the Museum.

Sunday we went to church and Curtis wasn't feeling well. He has this dairy sensitivity that seems to rear up every so often (like after having a Sonic milkshake after his soccer game) so he was fasting and didn't eat anything all day but by evening felt very hungry so he ate a ton, including milk and cheese. I should have slowed him down because Monday morning he did not feel good. It is just intestinal pain, not stomach related so he stayed home from school and read most of the day (ruining my day alone but I tried not to be selfish and let that bother me) and I cleaned and cleaned because we have company coming tomorrow. He is not allowed to have any dairy until after school tomorrow but has felt fine today so that is good. I got my second vaccine shot yesterday and felt fine and still taught all my piano lessons but today I have been very tired. It almost felt like being pregnant--just every fiber in my body was tired. I did get the laundry done but that's been about it because I've been laying down a lot. I did read a lot of Harry Potter to the kids because we are at the end of five and it was just too exciting to stop. Curtis did build this cool temple on Sunday. I should take another picture because he has since added a walking path and flower garden. It is based off the LA one, of which he has a picture in his room. There is even a baptismal font inside.

I did read something cool this week. My mom found a journal she kept for one year, from Dec 1979 until Dec 1980. It is a really interesting snap shot of what life was like with five girls 13 down to a new baby (me) with a husband who just got released as a bishop and called into the stake presidency right after I was born. My mom was so busy with hosting people--she was cooking and baking all of the time! She was in charge of so many church activities and luncheons and dinners and was always having people over. It was fun to read about what a good baby I was and what my sisters were like when they were little. I've included a few bonus shots of me as a baby/toddler including one with my grandma that I had never seen before and it made me happy because I don't really remember her.
