Week 9

This is starting to get kind of old but here we go. I don't even know what I can remember at this point.

Monday--laundry, ironing, making sure the kids did all their stuff, taught a piano lesson, we dipped things in chocolate for our family home evening treat

Tuesday--honestly have no idea. Oh wait, I did my first zoom workout. I logged into a class from my gym and it was painful but wonderful. I was so sweaty and felt really pushed for the first time in months and I loved it. I was in a really good mood all day afterward. But we did the same stuff as every other day until the evening. Lily and Emma had their zoom dance classes, I had a Relief Society activity on the 5 Love Languages which I already know all about so it felt a bit long, especially because there was no invited participation.

Wednesday--So exciting, we actually did something. It was a gorgeous day and we went strawberry picking with the Ainas. We got there right when it opened and it was a bit more crowded than I would have liked but people spread out and by the time we left an hour and a half later, we were pretty much the only ones there. It was nice to see friends and be outside somewhere other than my yard. I liked having my bigger kids there to be helpful; usually it is just me with a little kid who is distracting. I spent the afternoon making jam and cutting them up to freeze and also eating a ton. I love strawberries and these ones were incredibly delicious. Lily and Josh had a youth activity that night that Lily's class was in charge of and they did a fitness challenge. Being in the presidency has been tricky and definitely a learning experience for her, both good and bad.

Thursday--Taught three piano lessons, one of which was especially frustrating. It is really hard to teach some kids over the phone, especially when they refuse to put the screen on their hands or face so I'm just staring at the ceiling and hearing wrong notes and not getting much of a response. I was grumpy and almost lost it with this kid but thankfully didn't. Oh yea, Thursday was the day I watched Adeline for my friend, Jess, who hurt her foot really badly and can't walk on it right now. I picked her up at 9am and kept her until almost 7:30 pm that night. My girls adored her and I think it was really good for Emma to be the big girl for once. I really didn't have to do much because they kept her very entertained all day. She loved playing dress up and with Emma's Barbie dolls and she loved our swing set. She spent a good part of the day collecting all of their stuffed animals that have anything to do with Mickey because she loves Disney; it was cute. I had planned to take them dinner and take Adeline home then but then I thought they might enjoy a date night so I ordered Potbelly and had it delivered to their house and kept Adeline here until we started putting my kids to bed. Brandon and Emma were crying and have already asked for her to come back. Are they socially starved or did they just really love having a three-year-old follow them around all day? Not sure. It felt good to help someone though and give Jess a rest and a break that she really needed. I also did a grocery pick up and Lily had dance and Josh had meetings that night.

Friday--Josh was off and since his sourdough starter finally worked (seriously, he started the first attempt on March 12 and this was the third incarnation with regular feedings twice a day and lots of measuring with distilled water and flour everywhere) he was triumphant and made little pizzas for the kids for lunch and then bread for dinner to go with our shrimp mac and cheese. I went on a good bike ride and then I went to BJs and it was the first time I wasn't stressed in a grocery store in months so that was nice. Still no flour but we still have one big bag so hopefully we'll make it. It was also really nice out and Curtis and I had started working on another chalk drawing Wednesday afternoon so we worked on that and there was lots of bik riding and playing on the swing set. That night for our date we rented The Current War, about Edison and the beginning of electricity. It was kind of dark and weird but interesting at the same time. We also made strawberry milkshakes and they were amazing.

Saturday--This was a rough day for me. I was really tired and not feeling great and I just felt useless with nothing to do. Josh's to-do list is never-ending and he always has so much purpose and I felt lost on Saturday. He was busy cleaning out the garage and took a bunch of stuff to the dump, he weed whacked, he worked on our family videos, and he cut his hair. Curtis and I finished the chalk drawing and then I did some reading. For awhile I was just literally laying around and staring out the window. I think I really wanted to spend time with Josh but it just didn't work out and it put me in a funk. My love language is time and we haven't had a lot of quality time lately, nor have I had it with anyone so I hit a low that day, partly due to some miscommunication as well.

We did go for a walk in the late afternoon and Josh took care of dinner. We have been ordering out once a week and this week the local resturant on our list was Bollywood Masala. We have never eaten there but our friends like it so we decided to give it a try. First off, we ordered way too much food. I liked two of the five dishes we got, one was disgusting, one was okay tasting but looked revolting and one I didn't even try because I had just had enough. It was an adventure but unfortunately one that didn't go over very well with the family. I was proud of us all for trying it though and really with minimal complaining. We decided to watch Aladdin (live action) since Josh had never seen it and we got halfway before bed time so that was fun. The after Emma and Brandon went to bed we started watching Star Wars with the big kids. We decided to just begin at number 1, which I haven't seen since it was released in the theaters. We also got halfway before their bed time. Then Josh and I watched the entire movie of Aloha, which was free on demand. It had a lot of A-lister actors but was kind of a strange mix of drama and comedy, like it couldn't make up its mind. It was entertaining but not really a great movie.

Sunday--We had our church meetings, although with lots of technical difficulties this week, which slowed things down. We didn't end up doing our primary until almost 12pm but we played a fun game where I showed them the first letter of every word in the song and they had to figure out which one it was (I gave Brandon pictures). It was so fun even Lily came in to join us. I really enjoy singing with my kids and playing these music games with them. Then we had our sacrament meeting and talked about all the good things we learned in our scripture study this week. I really love the Book of Mormon and the stories and doctrine and the great people who are such good examples of disciples of Jesus Christ. The parts we are in right now are a big part of pageant and I can't help but quote it when I read along. Thankfully my family is patient and listens and I think they even like it.

Then Josh had meetings all afternoon and the kids spent a lot of time playing Legos. I really love when they all play together these imaginative games they create. I spent a lot of time reading, writing in my journal, checking in with some friends and talking to my sister. I made a great dinner, Josh and Lily had a youth meeting and then we finished Aladdin. Once the kids were in bed we watched the lat two episodes of The Last Dance. Josh is a huge Bulls and MJ fan and was so excited for this documentary to come out. Every Sunday for the past five weeks he is like a little boy when it is 9pm and time for it to come on. He already knows everything about MJ but we had fun watching them and I think he is sad they are over, especially with no NBA finals to watch this year. I imagine he will be watching them over and over again for the foreseable future.
