Week 11
Hey friends, or at least to the five of you I know read my blog. Here we are finishing up another week. It has been a pretty good one but right now I am feeling restless and up for something fun and different. I really wanted to go to the beach today but I couldn't get my crew on board so I have spent most of the day trying not to be frustrated that we are doing the same thing we have done for the last 11 weeks despite the fact that it is a warm and beautiful summer day.
Monday--We actually had a really nice Memorial Day. I declared it an all day play day, which basically meant no projects for Josh so that he would pay attention to us all day. We had a fun breakfast and then went to Dorsey Park. Our ward always has a picnic there on Memorial Day and it just felt like the place to be, but it was weird without our ward family. We played on the all new play equipment and then walked on the wooded trail and then played some more. There were only two other families there and we used sanitizer before and after so hopefully it was all good. Then we got ice cream for lunch, drove over to Solomon's to see the water (we had hoped to walk around but it was too crowded), then we came home for an episode of the GBBS and then we had the Wiests over for a cook out. It was so fun to hang out and talk with them and the little kids were in heaven running around outside with friends. I usually like to invite two or three families over so that all my kids end up with a friend but it felt a bit strange even just with one family here. It was so renewing to my spirit though and made me feel like me again being back as hostess, though I was definitely off my game. It is difficult to navigate who feels comfortable with what at this point and Leisa and I kept saying, this is okay, right?
Tuesday--back to the routine with three piano lessons, school, cleaning, laundry and then dance.
Wednesday--Nothing new here but it was a good day. Lily loved their youth activity, which was painting, especially because her youth leader brought her a canvas to use since we didn't have any and I didn't know that was what they were doing. Hers turned out really pretty and she loved doing it.
Thursday--A neighbor is trying to build her photographic portfolio up so she offered to take pictures for free. I needed new birthday pictures for everyone but Lily so we met up at the park right by my house and she took a few pictures for about 15 minutes. She just sent them to me earlier today and I am not super impressed but they were free and she was nice so we'll take them. That night while Josh had bishopric meeting Lily, Curtis and I watched Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azakaban. It was fun to see things that we saw in Universal and I am so glad we took that trip. I was wearing my Hogwarts shirt and while it was expensive, I absolutely love it and it makes me happy every time I wear it. Best girls trip ever!
Friday--Josh was home and we worked on family videos, he fixed a canvas print the kids had broken, he went running and I went on a bike ride, he went to Target for me and picked up Nicolletti's pizza for dinner because he was needing pizza. We watched Star Wars Episode III with the big kids while the little kids watched a Mickey TV show upstairs. It was depressing but at least a well done movie, a great recovery from Episode II. We fast forwarded a few spots that I didn't want the kids seeing but they really liked it. Then Josh and I watched a few episodes of The Tonight Show, which was more fun this week because it was staff favorites so it was a good variety of fun sketches from when he was on late night and from the Tonight show.
Today we are just doing more of the same: bike riding, taking walks, Josh and the kids tried making churros again but this time they used a diferent recipe and it was gross, and the kids all did their jobs and practiced the piano. I picked up groceries and we were able to pick up Lily's dance costumes. I love her ballet one, her pointe one is pretty and her jazz one is super fun. Her modern one is simple but pretty too. I will have to take pictures of her in each costume and put it next to the artwork each dance is based on. The show has been rescheduled for the last weekend in June but will be outdoors and just a recital; no continuous story since there is no way for them to rehearse it. I am super disappointed but trying to keep it in perspective. I just look forward to her show every year and it is such a highlight and I was so excited for the story this year. Oh well. I know it really isn't a big deal but I'm still disappointed.
We did watch the space launch and that was pretty cool. Everyone but Lily was super into it. I just finished reading The Astronauts Wives Club and while it wasn't well organized, I love that time period and the miracle of the space race. I wondered how Doug and Bob's wives were feeling and how it differs from the time of the early astronaut wives. Lily had a surprise birthday party on zoom for her friend tonight. She was planning it all week with her two other friends and they had a great time. They prepared a box for their friend and dropped it off right before the "party" and it included ingredients for a face mask and cookie dough and cards. Then they did the face masks together (Lily's skin feels so soft!) and watched a movie together and painted their nails and ate the cookie dough. It was super sweet and cute and creative and I was really impressed they pulled it off so well. Lily likes planning things like I do (although she is much more creative) and she likes making people happy so it was a great night for her.
So I didn't finish this yesterday and now it is Sunday. We had our church meetings this morning, which Josh helped teach, then I did singing time. We learend the second verse of We'll Bring the World His Truth and it went well. That is one of my favorite primary songs so I am excited to have the kids know it too. I really felt the spirit as I was teaching them the doctrine contained in that song. We are so blessed to have the truth and know who God is and what a special responsibility it is to share that with others. I remember being in the MTC standing with about 2,000 other missionaries while singing that song and I haven't been the same since. It was so powerful to literally feel a part of the army of God, going forth to share His word and gospel with people all over the world. They can choose not to listen but it is our responsibility to share and I am so grateful I had that experience. We went for a family walk and now it is Josh's time to be bishop and the kids are playing and I just feel content and blessed. I'm still annoyed we didn't go to the beach yesterday but I think the kids and I will go this week so there is that to look forward to.
I am so bad at taking pictures but this is what I have for the week. Looks like Lily is the star of the week!
