Prom
The rest of April was good. Back to normal schedules with school, baseball, dance and church. I went to book club and it was fun. One morning I took Lily to the ENT because she couldn't hear out of one ear. Turns out they had to vacuum ear wax out of her ear (one of the funniest sounds I have ever heard) and then she pulled out a chunk of ear wax that was stuck to Lily's ear drum. It was so gross and cool at the same time. It took all of 10 minutes and Lily could hear again--hooray!
I also took everyone to the dentist one morning and it was four for four no cavities--another hooray! I love that our dentist can do all four appointments at once so we are in and out in 30-40 minutes. I went to my annual physical and then Michelle and I took Sarah out for a late birthday lunch on Tuesday and that was fun. then I went to the temple Thursday. I listened to general conference on the way up and talked to my sister on the way home and it was fun to get caught up on all the young adult news regarding BYU graduation and jobs and upcoming weddings.
Thursday night we cheered our favorite Yard Goat on to victory and then Friday night we watched our favorite Hornet play well but lose badly. Curtis's team just can't field the ball very well on grounders. There are some kids who play in the outfield who catch the pop flys really well but as far as picking up the ball from the ground, they struggle and it can be painful to watch. They also have a hard time batting so that means they don't score much. Bases were loaded at one point and then three kids got up and struck out one after the other; so painful. He was supposed to have one last game last night but it was rained out so a very lame ending to a tough season. His coach invited him to practice with varsity during play offs but I don't think he'll play again. We're looking into a summer league and a different fall one from Little League and hope that he can play on varsity next year, which would be much less painful.
Saturday there was so much going on but in the end Josh took Curtis to his game against Leonardtown at 10am and Lily went to dance and I dropped Emma off later and then took Brandon to his game. Curtis lost, Brandon won and hit a double and both girls had good rehearsals. Lily got home and got ready for prom but since she didn't do anything fancy with her hair, it didn't take long. I appreciate that she isn't high maintenance at all but even I was surprised by how low key she was about prom. Maybe it is all the years I told her prom is overrated and kind of dumb...oops. She went over to a friend's house for dinner and some girls got ready there and then Josh and I went over when they were taking pictures on the girl's dock. It was pretty and the parents were all so nice and friendly. One mom made little bouquets for all the girls and then of course the one family hosted and it was all so kind. Lily decided to drive herself so we left and she followed one of the moms and they went down to the college to take some more pictures before heading to the dance.
We came home and made a fire and roasted brats for dinner and had s'mores and it was a fun evening. Josh and I were hoping Lily was having fun and were glad when she didn't get home until 10:30. She said it was fun and she would go again next year so that's great. I think it was cool that a group of smart and fun girls all went together and I'm so happy that she had fun. She didn't like her 8th grade dance at all but thankfully they've grown up and there wasn't drama and it was all good from what I heard. The last time we did prom was when Josh and I went to the senior ball together 27 years ago!
Sunday we were all so tired that as soon as we got home from church Lily passed out on the couch, Brandon fell asleep, I fell asleep and Emma and Curtis read for hours. It was silent in our house for awhile and it was an unusually lazy one for us. Then Lily had a YCL meeting and I made dinner and Josh came home and we had a nice family dinner. Now it is May and we've got concerts for everyone over the next two weeks and baseball and dance rehearsals are ramping up and we're counting down to the end of seminary and school.
