10!

This year was Brandon's golden birthday. On Friday he turned 10 on the 10th and I tried hard to make it a special day. He did get a delay after three snow days and another delay so that was pretty sweet. Since we had time I took him out to breakfast at Panera after the other kids had all left for school. He used to come along with me a lot when I would go out to lunch with friends at Panera when he was 3 and 4 so he came to love their bagels and smoothies, which is what he got on Friday. Then he went to school and I wrapped a few gifts and I had already decorated with golden balloons and a golden banner but then I made his dessert and got all ready for dinner stuff too. He came home and everyone else was still at activities so I let him watch a movie and made dinner (chicken Alfredo with homemade bread sticks) and finally when everyone got home we had dinner, he opened presents, and we had dessert (an Oreo pudding dessert instead of cake). He got a new bike so that was partly why this birthday was low key--between getting a more expensive present and my parents being here and the snow and Josh leaving town just a day later meant that we didn't do too much. But he loves his bike and my parents got him a new helmet and Josh's parents and sister got him LEGOs so that was fun. Lily and Curtis got him some new basketball sneakers and Emma got him this race car thing. Brandon was gracious and happy and it is always fun to celebrate such a great kid.

We did have a few of his friends over on Saturday. Dance was cancelled again and Brandon's basketball game was cancelled because they were worried about more snow but nothing really happened so we invited Ethan, Eli and Danny over to play for the afternoon and they had a lot of fun.

Brandon is so easy-going and fun to be around. At dinner we always say what we love about the birthday person and Josh and I both mentioned what a good companion/buddy he is and how fun it is to be with him. Lily said she loves being silly with him, Emma loves to play with him and Curtis said he is a good roommate (because he sleeps through everything and we are all thankful he does). Everyone gets along with Brandon and he is sweet and funny. He can be pretty quiet so people that don't take the time to get to know him don't appreciate how he loves to ask interesting questions and how thoughtful he is of other people and how funny he is.

He loves to watch Jeopardy with my parents, play silly imaginative games with Emma, he is good about practicing the piano and has made progress, he started the trombone this year, he is a wonderful helper, he loves playing baseball and basketball, he loves watching football with Josh, he does not like peas or cantaloupe but will eat just about anything else, he gets to be King Triton in his school's performance of The Little Mermaid Jr. in March, he does not have a great memory, he is always up for adventure and fun, he has the most kissable cheeks and rarely complains or gets upset. I'm so grateful for this boy of mine and love him so much.
