Darrow Disney Vacation Days 1-3

So after I wrote my last blog post I went to urgent care and it was rough. I got so hot I thought I was going to just pass out on the floor while I waited for them to call me back. Luckily I just made it but they took my temp and it was 103 and I could barely stay sitting up so they had to call someone else into the room in case I did pass out. They tested me for COVID and flu and strep and they all came back negative but they made me sip water and eat some chips and they gave me Advil to bring my fever down while they tested my blood sugar and other stuff. I could barely keep my eyes open and someone was holding me up every time they asked me to move. It was a real low point and I remember thinking how grateful I would be to not be so feverish and weak and I wondered if I ever would feel normal again. I was there for over two hours because their computer system was down for awhile but I told them I had to get back for when Emma got home so they did a chest x-ray and they were going to do an EKG because apparently the nurse heard some heart palpitations but once they found that I had pneumonia he cancelled the EKG and told me I could go home.

I got back just as Emma did and we did some packing and then I took Lily to dance and went and picked up my medicine then I taught some piano lessons (with a mask on) and then Josh and Curtis got home and we packed up the car and went to go get the girls from dance and we left for our trip. The house was still pretty messy but there was just nothing I could do about it; I was lucky I got my clothes washed and packed and remembered most of what we needed. Josh had packed me a blanket and I started my meds but it was not the most comfortable ride. We got dinner and gas at Wawa and then made it to Rocky Mount, NC by about 10.  Emma was coughing and coughing though and I was concerned that she might have pneumonia too since she had been sick before me so Josh gave us both blessings in the hotel room and then we decided to take her to urgent care once we got to Florida. My fever broke that night and I woke up so sweaty but finally feeling somewhat normal so that was great. We grabbed a quick breakfast and got back on the road and had an easy drive to Orlando. We got there about 6pm and checked into our hotel  (The Art of Animation and the same one we stayed in five years ago) and then got dinner. Afterwards I took Brandon to the pool to go swimming (Lily and Curtis decided to walk all around the hotel grounds because it is a fun property) and Josh took Emma to urgent care. They didn't find any evidence of pneumonia but gave her an antibiotic anyway and some cough medicine. We got to bed at a pretty good time and we were all excited for our first day at Disney World!

Wednesday morning we got up kind of early and had breakfast but Emma didn't eat much. She didn't have much of an appetite our whole trip which was tough because as we found out, the antibiotic upset her stomach if she didn't eat. So we were standing in line waiting for the bus to take us to Magic Kingdom when Emma looks at me panicked and she said she felt like she was going to throw up. I sent her out of line and she made it into the hotel gift shop where she lost it. Lily went with her to the bathroom and I was standing there with the boys trying to figure out what to do. Josh and I decided to switch places so I went to the bathroom and checked on the girls and he and the boys waited in line and I sent Lily back so that they could get going and ride Tron but then Emma perked up and said she felt better and so we actually made it back in time to get on the bus. We got to MK though and she threw up again in the bushes by where the bus dropped us off so we went to a bathroom by the bus loop and everyone else went in to ride Tron. Emma and I hung out for a bit and during this point I should mention it was raining, so the day was off to a rough start. Emma and I just sat on a  bench for awhile and she calmed down and stopped gagging and sipped some water. I really didn't want to be separated from everyone else so I asked her if we could just make it into the park and sit on a bench in there and she finally agreed. We made it into the park and walked down Main Street and it was so beautiful all decorated for Christmas. She started to feel better and better so we met up with everyone for the Monster's Inc. Laugh Floor and that was fun.

It ended up being a wonderful day. The weather cleared up and the lines weren't that long and Emma wouldn't ride on Tiana's with us but after that she did Thunder Mountain and was fine so she rode everything with us afterwards. We rode Mine Train, Haunted Mansion, Pirates, Small World, Winnie the Pooh, Little Mermaid, Space Mountain and Buzz Lightyear. We ate beignets after Tiana's Bayou adventure and cinnamon rolls at Gaston's Tavern and I had a delicious chicken Parm sandwich for dinner at Pinocchio's.  We did Mickey's PhilharMagic and then watched fireworks and then Josh and the big kids went to do Tron again while I took Emma and Brandon on the Aladdin magic carpet ride twice. It all turned out really well and we had so much fun together. I loved that Christmas music was playing and Main Street was so pretty and it really wasn't super crowded and we did everything we wanted to do.

Our hotel people were also awesome because they got us a free magic band for Curtis to replace the one from five years ago that was too small and when Emma lost her refillable cup in the kerfuffle of getting sick, they gave us a free one to replace it. So while things started off a bit tough, it all worked out.
