Week 14
Well, I got behind. Sunday was busy and I didn't have any time to myself so here we are a few days late.
Monday (over a week ago) was awhile ago and I don't know what I can remember other than for family night treat I made some of Mary Berry's Viennese Whirls from the Great British Baking show and they actually turned out. I am not a baker and not good at making things look pretty but they tasted pretty good and looked decent. The jam was a bit runny and leaked a bit through the biscuit so Paul would not have been happy, but my family was and it was fun to try something new.
Tuesday we went to pick up Emma's stuff from school and it was more emotional than I thought it would be. They had a certain number of cars pull into the bus loop, teachers came and brought our stuff, then they released us all at once with everyone honking and waving. Such a weird school year and a sad, strange way to end it. I taught piano, my girls had dance, Curtis had a primary activity and I had book club. We discussed Becoming Mrs. Lewis and I really enjoyed it. It is always fun to hear other perspectives and have a thoughtful discussion about something other than our kids or the news of the day. Book club helps keep me sane and happy.
Wednesday we went to Curtis's school for his stuff and it was a little bit less fun than Emma's. We were the only ones there and just said hi and goodbye to his teachers. Then we dropped off books at the library that we've had for three months and then we helped a new family return some stuff they borrowed to the church building.
Thursday was the official last day of school. My kids all did well with the online schooling stuff but it still feels good to have it be over and done with. We headed up to a park to play with some friends and get milkshakes from a place Michelle had heard was amazing and it did not disappoint. It is also a good thing it is 30 minutes away. We all loved our milkshakes and it was a fun way to celebrate the end of the year. We had to hurry home to get Lily to dance (she got to go back to the studio!) and I had a piano lesson. Then I took everyone else to the pool for a bit and that was fun. I'm so glad our pool opened and you just have to wear masks in and around the pool but not if you are sitting at a table.
Friday my kids were pretty tired and so instead of playing over at the Aina's pool, we chilled at home. I had told them since it was the first day of summer, they could do what they wanted all day, which turned into hours of television. I am usually pretty strict about how much TV they watch so they took advantage of their freedom and watched it for hours and hours. I did take Lily to dance and the others to the pool for about an hour, but the rest of the day they watched TV until I cut them off at 5pm. It was ridiculous but since I have only ever let them do it two days of the whole year, I suppose it makes it special and fun.
Saturday we had decided we needed a family adventure. We talked about all sorts of things but with the weather and other restrictions, we ended up leaving about 11:30 to go to Annapolis. We went the mall and just walked around for a bit (something my kids never get to do since we don't have a mall close by). Most of the stores were closed so we literally just window shopped but it wasn't crowded and it was something different to do and fun to be out of the house. Then when the rain was done we went to historic Annapolis. We parked at the Naval Academy and looked around a bit then walked over to the harbor and watched boats for a bit. We got ice cream, went into one or two stores and then walked back. It was a beautiful day and fun to be by the water and in some place new. The kids haven't really ever been there so it was fun to show them around. It was a bit crowded right by the stores but most people we wearing masks and we stayed away from people unless we had to walk by them. I feel like we were as careful as we could be.

We stopped at Barnes and Noble afterwards and it was heavenly to walk around a book store. It was a pain to wear a mask that whole time and my ears hurt afterwards. I can't imagine wearing it more than an hour. We were hungry and a restuarant close by was open that we hadn't ever tried before so we went and it was pretty good. I didn't love it but again, it was new and different so we all enjoyed the adventure of it all. We got home at 9 and quickly but everyone to bed.
Sunday was a nice Father's Day. I made egg burritos and donut muffins for breakfast, we had nice church meetings and then we did our primary. We sang all of Josh's favorite songs and then played a game to review all the others. For sacrament meeting we talked about important qualities in being a good dad and the kids came up with some good stuff. I was impressed that they not only notice the good things their dad does but recognize how important it is to work hard, be an equal partner with mom, be willing to serve, the importance of the temple and the covenents we make there as well as being kind and treating people well. If they turn out at all like their amazing dad, I'll be happy. Josh really is a fantastic father. He is so patient and kind but also firm with our kids. He is super involved and I love that we really do co-parent pretty equally and are almost always on the same page when it comes to handling kid situations. I learned in a class we took before Lily was born that just because dads do things differently than moms does not mean they are doing it wrong and that has really stuck with me. He supports me but I also support him and I think it works well. I ended up writing a letter from our ward to all the dads that Michelle posted on our ward facebook page along with a video Sarah did of all the kids singing I am a Child of God and it was really sweet. Hopefully all the dads felt loved and honored and appreciated.

Afterwards Josh got some back rubs, we had a zoom call with all of my family, Josh talked to his dad, I made snickerdoodle cheesecake bars and then BBQ ribs with twice baked potatoes for dinner, then we watched some of the British Baking show. I got him some jeans online that miraculously fit him and he liked (seriously a father's day miracle!) and Curtis asked him a bunch of questions that turned into a really interesting discussion. I'm incredibly grateful for my parenting partner and what a wonderful father he is and I'm incredibly grateful for my own dad. My fondest memories are of him reading me books while I snuggled on his lap and also decorating for Christmas. He is sensitive and a good listener and generally very patient. I can remember the one time in my whole life he spoke quite sharply to me because it stands out as so unusual. He is a wonderful example of leading, teaching, serving and being wholly committed. I love him lots and appreciate how much he has alwas loved me.
