Disney Prep Part 2

Our trip is coming soon and we made a lot of progress on our Disney movies, but we still have nine to go. I don't know that we are going to finish because it is tough with school schedules to all be together, but hopefully we'll make it.

27. Toy Story--a big hit in our family. It really is so clever and creative. So much of what Disney had
done up to this point was to re-tell a classic story but Toy Story is so unique and the story and characters are incredibly original. I still find Sid a bit creepy but we all loved it and can't wait to ride Toy Story Mania!
28. Hunchback of Notre Dame--This was a tougher movie to watch with the kids and I knew it would be because it is not a kids movie. It is so adult in theme and I was a bit nervous to watch it with them. However, they ended up liking it more than I thought they would. I did skip the hell-fire song but the other music is so good and we did talk about the importance of being kind to others. This movie is well done but it is so intense for kids.
29. Hercules--I only got to listen to this one because the kids watched it in the car one weekend that we drove up to Philadelphia. I haven't seen it in a long time but the music is fun and I think they all liked it. I don't like Greek mythology but my two older kids do and I think they enjoyed it most.

30. Mulan--Now we're talking. This is one of my very favorites and I can seriously quote the entire movie. I love the music, Mushu is such a brilliantly funny character, it is beautiful visually and I love that it is about a girl just getting things done. Even though it deals with war and my little kids were confused by some of that part of it, everyone loved this amazing movie.
31. Bug's Life--I love Pixar and this is another great movie. Such a great cast of characters and we all had fun watching this one and the outtakes, which are hilarious.
32. Tarzan--another big hit. The kids thought Turk was so funny and weren't as nervous about the leopard as the first time we watched it. I'm not a big fan of how the songs changed and weren't sung by the characters anymore but I love Jane and know all of her lines.
33. Dinosaur--Now this was interesting. Most people haven't even heard of this movie and for good reason. It is hard to imagine that it was made by Disney people because there is nothing Disney about it, other than the fact that the dinosaurs talk. It has no music and the story is dreary. There is a lot of dinosaur fighting and it almost feels more to me like an animated dinosaur documentary than a Disney movie. Most of us didn't like it but my four-year-old son thought it was great.
34. Monster's Inc.--Another brilliant, creative and completely original movie. I love this one. My little kids weren't so sure about the monsters at first but they quickly figured out that this movie is funny and has great characters and only Randall is creepy.
35. Lilo and Stitch--I had watched this about five years ago and didn't like it so I was not excited for this one but I actually liked it way more this time. The animation is more like a Saturday morning cartoon and I generally don't like alien movies but I found it a bit more endearing this time. My kids thought Stitch was so funny and I tried not to be too stressed for the sister and that helped. Not the best but it is different and cute.
36. Finding Nemo--I don't like it when things are lost so this movie stresses me out a bit but it is such a great group of characters (a Pixar strength) and Dory speaking whale is one of Disney's finest moments.
37. Brother Bear--I like how this one helps you see a different perspective and that there are two sides
to the story. I still think it is weird he chose to stay a bear at the end but the moose playing I Spy is often quoted at our house and always makes me laugh.
38. Incredibles--We all loved it and I especially like how it is a whole family working together
39. Cars--This movie is a big hit in our family, especially with our youngest. Now every time I take him to the gym he requests that they put it on the TV for him.

40. Meet the Robinsons--I remember seeing this movie with Josh when it came out at a dollar theater in Palmdale, CA and then going to get the newest Harry Potter book at a nearby Walmart at midnight. I think it is super fun to have a smart kid who works so hard and pushes on through failure. Such a great message! My daughter thinks the hat is weird and doesn't like when it takes over but overall, everyone thought this was great.
41.  Ratatouille--My kids weren't so sure about this one but Remy is pretty cute and I tried not to be grossed out by all of the rats pouring through the kitchen and that helped us all to like it. This one is creative too but almost a little too close to reality to be able to willingly suspend my disbelief and imagine a rat cooking and owning a restaurant. But, we enjoyed watching it.
42. Wall-E--This movie is okay. Pretty amazing that Disney can give these little robots so much personality but visually it is kind of ugly with all of the garbage and a bit slow moving.
43. Bolt--Curtis especially loves this movie because it is about a dog. I just listened to it while we were driving so I think they all enjoyed it but I don't have much of an opinion so I couldn't actually see it.
44. Up--This movie is sad but we all really like the dog, Doug, and the balloon imagery is beautiful. It is just disappointing that his wife dies, that the kid's mom and dad are obviously not functional and then to have a hero turn out to be a scum bag is all just so sad to me. At least the Doug and Kevin end up safe and happy.
45. Princess and the Frog--I was not looking forward to this because last time we watched it Lily was little and the shadow man really freaked her out but I enjoyed it this time. He still is super creepy but I like how Tiana is a hard worker and has goals and does what she has to in order to achieve them. It is pretty funny and the music is good.
46. Tangled--This is one of my favorites. I love the songs, I love Flynn and how he is an unlikely hero and hilarious, I like how fun Rapunzel is and we all loved Maximus. This is classic Disney at its best.

We did also squeeze in Winnie the Pooh somewhere in there. Our Disney Magic Bands came in the mail yesterday and I ordered t-shirts for us to all be Aladdin characters at Mickey's Not-So-Scary-Halloween party. I am getting so excited, and a bit nervous because we have spent a lot of money on this trip and a lot of time preparing and I just really hope it goes well.  I am also stressed about all the school my kids are missing and dance, but everyone keeps telling me it is going to be fine. We haven't even figured out exactly when we are leaving yet but will need to make that decision soon. I guess as long as we have clothes and our magic bands, we're pretty set to enjoy Disney! Can't wait!
