Saturday Mornings
Saturday mornings are my favorite time with my family. My husband and I sleep in a bit while the kids wake up and play quietly in someone's room until we get up. When we go to get the kids, they are always so happy to see their dad and have him around for morning time. Sometimes I get up first and get the kids while he stays in bed and then they all love to go in and jump on him and give him kisses to wake up. Wrestling, tickling and laughter often ensues on those days.
Once we're all up we head downstairs, still in our pajamas, and get started on a fun breakfast. Pancakes are my favorite, but my husband makes amazing French toast and waffles too. Sometimes we have German pancakes or egg sandwiches but those are usually our Sunday fare. We crank up the Saturday morning playlist and get to work. Yesterday I made smoothies for the kids while my husband made waffles and the kids set the table. It is the only day of the week we eat breakfast all together so it is always fun to talk about what we should do that day and hear the kids' suggestions. They usually include a family movie, riding bikes, having friends over or just playing, which is slightly different from my list of cleaning their bathrooms, running errands or helping their dad put stuff together. We find a balance to make everyone happy and start cleaning up. Although our son is usually still eating so we clean around him. He loves breakfast food and can eat his weight in French toast especially. We rarely have any leftovers with him around.

Then it is play time, get chores done, get dressed and get on with the day time. But for that hour or two in the morning it is relaxed and our family can enjoy being together. Unlike many of our family dinners, no one is rushing off for an evening appointment and we aren't tired from the stress of the day. We are fresh and happy and excited about a day we can spend together. It is such special time together that we keep our Saturdays, especially the mornings, as unscheduled as possible. It is the only day of the week my husband is home and completely available to our family since weekdays he is at work and on Sunday he has many church responsibilities. That's why my favorite time with my family is Saturday mornings.
