We made it!

Josh has been gone for work for the past two weeks and it went well but was long and lonely. It didn't help that he was in CA and loving it so it kind of felt like he went on spring break without us, but we made it. The first week he was gone I did a lot of getting up early, driving all over, teaching piano, picking up kids, walking with Michelle, taking boys to baseball, and did I mention driving all over our county? I tried to make food Josh doesn't love so for dinner we had cottage cakes one night and a croissant berry bake another, along with shepherd's pie and banana cream cake for dessert.

That Friday was an early dismissal and I picked up Lily a few minutes early from school so she could take her driving test. I was so nervous but the test guy was super nice and Lily did well and passed! I was so relieved....and then terrified that I was going to just send her off on her own. She ended up driving Emma and herself to dance and then home again and it was super nice not having to worry about picking them up, especially since Brandon and I were at Curtis's game and it would have been a pain to leave and get back.

Saturday Lily had dance rehearsal, so did Emma, boys both had baseball and then I drove Lily to meet her ride up to the stake center and then later Curtis to meet his ride so they could go to the stake youth activity. Neither were very excited about it but they both had a good enough time. I don't know why our kids aren't more social and excited to spend time with other kids but neither of them complained at all (Lily actually planned part of the activity) so I'll call it a win. I had a moment where I thought, what would it be like to actually do what I would like to do on a Saturday instead of just driving my children to their stuff, but I know this is a short season in life and I'll get to do what I want to to do soon enough, right? Emma, Brandon and I watched Mary Poppins and then I got them to bed and went and picked up the big kids.  So much driving!

I was nervous about Sunday because it was ward conference and my turn to play the organ and also a special musical number and teach primary so I just had a lot going on. I practiced and prayed and prepared and everything went smoothly, for which I was very grateful. The three hour time difference and our busy schedule had made it hard for us to talk to Josh all week but we were able to catch up on Sunday afternoon, which was nice and since we didn't have to wait for him to come home for dinner, we ate earlier and then started watching the new season of The Amazing Race.

Week 2 of Josh being gone was a bit easier because Lily could drive but it felt longer. I was very proud of Emma who got herself up every morning and off to school with no one around since it was my week to drive to seminary and Josh wasn't there. Then every afternoon I parked the car at Lily's bus stop and walked home so that she could drive to dance. She was so helpful too; on Tuesday and Thursday while I was at Brandon's practice she went and picked up Curtis from practice. I even gave her a gift card one night and told them to go get dinner. I love having her be able to run errands! Although it is only while Josh is gone since we only have two cars, but still, it was very helpful this past week. So I did a lot of baseball-ing and teaching and went to the gym and did some birthday prep since we have two birthdays coming up this week.

Thursday Michelle and I went to the temple and it was a really beautiful day. It was so wonderful to talk about all the things and I treasure our sacred conversations in the temple too. We saw some people in our ward and stake and the flowers were gorgeous and the whole experience just really lifted my soul. I love going to the temple and talking with a friend sure makes the drive go by fast. Friday Curtis had a baseball game and they all start so early that with my teaching schedule, the only ones I can go to are on Friday nights. So while the girls were dancing, Brandon and I drove up to Waldorf to a high school there to see his game and it was fun; they won and Curtis scored and it was a lovely evening to be at the ball field. Josh got home just before midnight so I was excited all day to see him.

Yesterday Josh did most of the driving around but then we all went to Brandon's first baseball game and he played well. He did some catching and pitching and played 2nd and did well at all of them. His pitching is a bit rough but they put him in right at the end of the game for some practice and he struck one kid out, walked one kid and then one kid got a hit so a little bit of everything. He has only pitched in one other game ever so he is making progress and that's exciting. He really enjoys catching though so maybe he'll stick with that instead. His coaches are so nice and I really like this team. We made it home for the second session of General Conference (it didn't rain and cancel our sports like I had hoped it would) and it was a great session that I really enjoyed. We had a quick dinner and then watched the second session, then Josh watched the Final Four games. I was so tired and Lily and I both fell asleep but as it turns out, I beat Josh in our brackets so that is very exciting. We both have Houston winning the tournament but I had Florida and he didn't so I ended up with more points. Yeah me! Now he owes me a date. :)

Today we slept in until 10am, had French toast for breakfast, watched a beautiful session of conference and took a family walk. Josh is excited about trying a dessert pizza and is currently cooking apples for it (he doesn't quite know what to do with himself on a Sunday afternoon without calling responsibilities) and the kids are practicing the piano and life is beautiful and good.
