Hello September

Another exciting week in the books. We found out Monday that Curtis's wrist was indeed broken so Tuesday morning I tried to get him an appointment and the place Josh went to when he broke his ankle had no appointments this week. I was able to get him in to a pediatric orthopedist in Prince Frederick, which from my house isn't a big deal but from his school it is a 45 minute drive, but not until Friday. I was pretty stressed about getting him to see someone but we did the best we could and he had a splint on and wasn't in much pain so I tried to calm down. I was pretty anxious all week though wondering what she was going to say.

Anyway, Tuesday I canned peaches and cut the grass and picked up groceries and took Brandon to baseball. Wednesday I went back to the gym for the first time in awhile and it felt good. I wore a mask and only one other person did but it made me feel safer. It also wasn't super crowded so we could spread out. Exercising in a mask is not my favorite but it felt good to lift weights again and I want to protect my unvaccinated kids so here we are. Then Lily and I had ortho appointments and I took her straight to dance, then Emma started dance that evening and Josh came and got Lily for church activities.

Thursday I went to lunch with Nola and it was nice to catch up with her. She invited me out but let me pick the place so we went to Fiesta Pollo. I am in love with their jamica juice and the papusas are pretty good too. I've had better but there is nothing here in SOMD so they will have to do. Then I taught piano lessons all afternoon and then since it rained, we had a night off from practice, which meant we could have a nice family dinner together and I enjoyed it.

Friday was so busy. I got the kids on the bus then went and picked up Curtis and took him to his appointment. It is a clean break so he just has to wear a cast for six weeks and he should be fine. She said he was cleared for any activity he was comfortable doing so yeah! I haven't made him play the piano but he is going to keep playing baseball. We went to his game that night to cheer on his team and he did go to practice yesterday. He can pretty much bat, but he can't get a glove on over his cast so catching the ball is an issue. He'll do what he can and he'll still have four games left after he gets his cast off so at least he'll stay active and get to do something. By the time we were done it didn't quite seem worth it to drive him all the way back to school so we got milkshakes at Mrs. Moo's and had some nice time together. I dropped him off at home to do homework and went to Target, then took Lily to dance, I made peach jam, then I took Lily from dance to Abby's house and then met the rest of the crew at the baseball game. Then I took Emma to dance and Josh picked her up after the game. When we finally got everyone home and in bed, Josh and I watched The Devil Wears Prada (Cruella reminded us of it) and it was fun.

Saturday was Brandon's first ever baseball game and it was so fun. His team is amazing. His coach is so on it and organized and professional. We want Brandon to be on his team forever. Brandon did a good job for his first time and even got on base when the ball hit his thumb and landed about four feet in front of him. He was just standing there so I yelled to run and he finally moved. It was so funny and I love that kid. Josh took the kids to the field by our house after the game to play catch and hit some balls and they had a great afternoon. Even Emma said maybe she should try out softball because it was fun to play. Josh has so little time to just hang out with the kids that it made me really happy for them to all have that time together.

I gave Lily and Curtis each a summer reading list of 13 books that included a church book, non-fiction, some new authors and some classics. I told them if they finished it before school started, we would take them out for a special dinner. Curtis was done weeks ahead of time and liked all of his books, especially The Hobbit and Robinson Crusoe. He also had to read the first in the Work and the Glory series and he has liked it so much he is now on book seven. Lily was a little tougher. She didn't want to read Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie and I just don't get it--I love that book--but whatever. She liked reading Agatha Christie but was not a fan of To Kill a Mockingbird and she put off reading President Monson's biography and finished it the day before school started.

Anyway, Saturday we decided to take them out for their special dinner so Mahi came over to babysit for the two hours we were gone and we took them to Stoney's Kingfishers for hush puppies and crab legs. It was such a lovely day and we had a nice time with them. Then we dropped them off and the two of us went to see A Night on Broadway together. It was a good show, some songs were better than others, but it was fun to see Tony sing (and hilarious to see him dance!) and it was a nice date night. Then we got home and watched the BYU vs Utah football game and it was so fun! We were playing so well and winning at halftime when we should have gone to bed but we stayed up and watched the whole game and it was so exciting. We were up until 2am, which Josh felt so guilty about, but he didn't look sleepy on the stand in church the next day so it was fine and we just went to bed nice and early Sunday evening.

Sunday was lovely and relaxing and I spent a lot of time planning music for sacrament meeting for the next few months. Then Monday was back to school and I watched my friend's little girl for awhile and taught four piano lessons and did laundry and Josh took Curtis to baseball so then I made dinner and we had family night. Life is busy and good and moving along!
