Lightning!

and that's when things went downhill. When we got home, the garage door openers wouldn't work. Not a good sign. We went in the house and Josh immediately said, something smells funny. I am very good when we go on trips to make sure the pantry and fridge are pretty well cleaned out and we always take out the garbage and I check the dishwasher and disposal. So I sniffed around and couldn't find anything. Then we opened the garage door and it was so disgusting. What we decided in that moment was that the power must have gone out and our freezer door was open and dripping rotten meat juice and there were probably 300 flies buzzing around. It was super disgusting. I about threw up right then.  Thankfully Josh is heartier and he got out there and opened up the doors and started bagging up the rotten food. I couldn't even go out there without gagging. Brandon and I looked around the rest of the house to figure out what was going on. The power wasn't on in the boys' ro...

Best week of the year

Image
So we all woke up early on Saturday and drove up to College Park to pick up Lily and Curtis from FSY. They both had a really great time and told us some stories as we drove to NC. Curtis said his counselor was super cool and he aspires to be like him and he really liked everyone in his company. Lily told us about some of the classes and they talked about the teachers and they both loved the food so the whole experience was very positive--hooray! We drove a long 95 where we don't usually drive and it was so slow and that was annoying but we grabbed some breakfast sandwiches and didn't stop again until the grocery store on Emerald Isle. We got all of our food and showed up at our house five minutes before check in. We had a little trouble finding the key box but finally did and get everything in and put away and then we went to the beach for a few hours before coming home and having a late dinner.  The house was older but it worked. It was just a half mile down the road from wh...

July Part 2

Image
The rest of July was good. Picking up from where I left off that Monday I took Curtis to physical therapy and his ankles seem to be getting better but he still can't run yet so I hope he continues to make progress before XC starts. Nancy and I then took Anna to lunch for her birthday and the girls danced and we had the Kinneys over for dinner to catch up with them. It was really fun to talk about Sicily since we had just been there and we enjoyed hearing all of their crazy stories. We're glad they are back! Tuesday I hosted Inklings and taught a piano lesson and went to book club, which was really good. I had enjoyed the book and we had a good discussion and even though I drove home in the craziest thunder storm, I made it safely. The rest of the week I went to the gym, kids had youth activities, more dance, more PT, the Wiests came and swam with us one day and we took the Cox kids to the pool another day. Then on that Saturday we did family pictures with Bethany. We got done ...

July Part 1

We got back and the next few days were all about getting back to work for Josh and grocery shopping and laundry and paying bills for me. Brandon was pretty mopey our first day back and I think it was because Debbie had spent so much time with him and I was busy getting back into life and didn't entertain him every moment. Curtis did his second driving time with an instructor and I took him and Emma to the doctor and it was just all the things. For July 4th I really wanted to go to DC but then it was going to be so hot and there was security and you couldn't bring anything with you and then there were storms predicted and then I found out the president was going to be speaking and also Michelle didn't want to go and my kids didn't want to go and the fireworks weren't going to be until 11pm. I think we were still pretty tired from our trip (and honestly the last two months) so we ended up doing nothing. It was the lamest fourth of July ever. We slept in, Josh made pa...
