Our first high school grad!

Last week was pretty crazy but good. Monday was memorial day and it was cloudy but didn't rain until the end so that was actually great. There weren't a ton of people there but I chatted with people and ate some and the kids had a great time so that's a win. Then the Wiests came over for piano lessons and Lily went to make her card box with Adi and Emma's friend came over for the afternoon.  Tuesday I had hoped to make it to Inklings but I had so much to do. I also realized it would be the last day I had any alone time until September so I stayed home and got the house cleaned up and laundry finished and all sorts of lists made. Lily went to Evergreen for the graduation walk and Brandon's teacher took a picture of the two of them for me; so sweet. That night I went to Michelle's for a game night and it was fun. I haven't been out late in awhile and I did actually leave before the party was done but I've been so tired. I'm hoping my iron pills help p...

Concerts and awards and seminary graduation

We have successfully navigated another busy May week. Monday Lily had her BECA Scholarship awards ceremony. There were a lot of kids there from all four high schools and there were a  lot of awards to give out but they were very efficient and it was an hour and a half, just as they promised. The presenters weren't even allowed to speak about their organization; just say the name of the recipient but it kept things moving. There were a few memorial scholarships given out in honor of lost loved ones and lots of businesses and then from county organizations. Lily won the one from the Rotary Club that she received last week at the Olive Garden dinner but they presented it again and then she got one from the St. Mary's Art Council. Every little bit helps! I saw a few previous piano students and some neighbors and Lily's friend from dance and I just felt blessed to be a part of such a nice community. Then we went home and Lily made dinner while I went to pick up Brandon from pra...

Sisters Weekend

Image
Back when I was a missionary my four older sisters somehow all ended up in one place and that was the first annual sisters weekend. When I got back and got married, just three weeks later my parents flew me to Pennsylvania where Cindy lived for the second one (but my first). We did that for years; we would rotate houses and host and do fun things where we lived. We've had some drama ones (mostly because one of my sisters and I have had a hard time getting along well since I was 20) and some where we invited our parents, like when we went to Vermont for my dad's 80th birthday celebration or when we went to Rochester for my mom's 80th. One year our sisters weekend was when we spent the day at my nephew's wedding and one year it was our family reunion at the beach. Our last one was our first travel one; we went to Charleston and it was a cool city to visit but I had a rough time. I got very sick and felt so feverish and cold about halfway through so that wasn't fun.  ...

Lily's final concert, baseball ends and Mother's Day

We made it through another week of May! Monday I subbed from 10-2 and probably only worked about 80 minutes of that time. It got a little boring trying to figure out what to do or keep myself from just sitting there between the meetings I was covering but hey, I got paid so that's good. Lily was home sick and Curtis had an away game and I taught piano and took Emma to and from dance and Brandon to and from practice. Lily had an AP exam Tuesday and really wasn't feeling great so Josh gave her a blessing that night too so she could hopefully get better, get a good sleep and do her best on her exam.  Tuesday I just went in for an hour to cover a teacher who was helping with testing and then I spent the rest of the day finishing my Monday to-do list like laundry and ironing and making a grocery list and doing one of my cleaning projects before my sisters come. Wednesday was the gym and groceries and a piano lesson before picking Emma up from dance and going to Lily's band conce...
