Josh and I were 17 and we went on our first date. He had followed me out of our AP English class two days before and asked me if I wanted to go see a movie and get dinner with him. That was a Wednesday and for some reason we had Friday off. I had volleyball practice in the evening so we ended up going to see Seven Years in Tibet around 12pm and then having a late lunch at Friendly's. I remember that I had pretty much eaten my food and Josh had hardly touched his because he was telling me all about this movie idea he had that he wanted to make someday. Josh worked at a movie theater at the time and I had joked in English class that because he got to see movies for free he should share the wealth but ironically that Friday the movie left his theater so he had to pay to go see it at a different one on the other side of town. We also got Reese's Pieces sundaes at Friendly's and they are still my very favorite sundae today. Friendly's makes the best peanut butter sauce with fudge and then the pieces on top; so delicious. Josh knew right from the beginning the way to my heart.
We listened to the oldies station on the radio in the car and he opened doors for me (the one to the theater was locked so that was funny) and it was so easy to talk to him. He was so polite and nice and I felt really safe and comfortable with him. It was a good first date that through years and miracles turned into this beautiful life that we share.
This picture is not from our first date but it is one of the very first pictures we have together, even though we had been dating almost a year by this point. He came to BYU to visit me when we were freshman and I took him to the preference dance. We still aren't good at taking pictures together.
